By December 8, 2016September 4th, 2021No Comments

We’re shining a light on some of the best, most active transcriptionists in the TranscribeMe community! Meet the amazing, hard-working, detail-oriented people from all around the world that make our transcription process the best in the business.

Meet Katherine from Wales, UK…

When did you get into transcription?

I was 16 years old. I’d finished my exams with flying colors in English language, and the time had come for me to find work. I battle with chronic illness on a daily basis, so both me and my mother wanted me to be able to work from home. We tried lots of things, but they weren’t working out, and pressure was growing for me to find a steady job…

That’s when I came across TranscribeMe. The prospect of being able to work from home, doing something I enjoyed (writing and editing), and for it to have flexibility (for my days of bad health) seemed almost too good to be true.

What does your typical work environment look like?

I’m not going to lie, I can be a messy person. I have periods of messiness and tidiness, but right now is a messy time, and I’m sitting at my desk on my laptop.

On my right is a computer mouse and mousepad, an assortment of empty drinking receptacles (from juice, tea, water). On my left is a spare pair of headphones, a pen and notepad (for help in noting down certain guidelines and speaker IDs). In between all the space is a variety of mess relating to my art and crafting hobbies. For days when I feel I can’t sit up (due to migraines), I snuggle up in bed with my laptop.

What else do you like to do when you’re not transcribing?

I enjoy writing stories and drawing, as well as studying the Bible and foreign languages. One day, I hope I can transcribe in a language other than English.

What’s your favorite tip to get the job done?

Proofread before submitting! So many people underestimate the power of proofreading. Proofreading will give you better satisfaction from your work, and a better score with TranscribeMe and the clients.

What is your favorite part about being a part of TranscribeMe?

I really love being a part of my division on the Yammer community, and being able to connect with other transcribers there. It makes me feel like I’m part of a big workplace, with workers from all around the world.

I also love being a QA — I get a lot of satisfaction from working as a QA. Each file is like a challenge and a puzzle for me to complete. (On a side note, I’m one of those people who inwardly flinches if you spell “your” instead of “you’re,” so I get satisfaction from correcting transcripts, hehe!)

Lastly, I really enjoy learning, and I really have learned so much from working with TranscribeMe as a company.

Without revealing any client information, do you have any funny or interesting stories of transcribing?

There’s not much I can say without giving away client information, but I recently got to transcribe some audio files from a tour guide of a different country. It felt like I was on the tour too, and all from the comfort of my bedroom! I’ve also been able to transcribe medical files with medical information that I’ve been able to apply to my own illness. Overall, I’ve learned many things from transcribing at TranscribeMe.
