formatting for transcriptions

We’re always working to ensure our customer’s complete satisfaction with every order, so we have developed a variety of transcription formats and specialized editing styles to make certain that your end-result transcript turns out exactly the way you want it to.

Our expert transcriptionists are trained to handle style guides and custom formatting for any industry or need, including for:

Types of Transcription

At TranscribeMe, we offer varying types of transcription services to fit the specific needs and budget limitations of any individual person, business, student or researcher.

Standard

Standard transcripts go through both an initial layer of transcription, and then to our Quality Assurance Team to output our guaranteed 99%+ accuracy. These transcripts remove “umms”, “ahhs”, “likes”, “you knows”, and other filler words in addition to stuttering. Please note that with our Standard service, we do not correct grammatically incorrect language – we transcribe the audio exactly as it is.

Verbatim

Verbatim transcripts go through both an initial layer of transcription, and then to our Quality Assurance Team to output our guaranteed 99%+ accuracy. We capture speech exactly how it sounds. This includes all filler words, stuttering and speech errors.

First Draft

First Draft transcription service passes through our initial transcription step, where a team of transcriptionists work on your content in tandem. The transcript is returned to you without timestamps and speaker IDs and does not pass through a final editing step like our Standard and Verbatim services. We remove “umms”, “ahhs”, “likes”, “you knows”, and other filler words in addition to stuttering. We do not correct grammatically incorrect language – we transcribe the audio exactly as it is. More details can be found here.

Transcription Formats & Editing Styles

  1. Full Verbatim: We transcribe your text exactly as it sounds, complete with repetitions and speech errors.
  2. Clean Verbatim: All stutters, stammers and filler words are removed (such as “hmm,” “you know,” “like”).
  3. Edited Verbatim: We improve grammar and tenses for easier readability, so it’s already ready for publishing.

Speaker Identification: We can differentiate between speakers, or transcribe the text as if just one person were saying the entire thing. Speaker identification is included in the price and we typically do S1, S2, S3, and so on type labels, or we can customize them to fit the speaker’s names if you speak with one of our sales representatives directly.

Timestamps: We typically produce time stamps every 2 minutes or every time that the speaker switches with another person. However, we can provide time stamps at different intervals depending on your needs.

SRT / Closed Captions: This specialized format provides time stamps at very specific intervals. This is the format most commonly used in closed captioning and it pairs perfectly with your closed captioning software.

NVivo: This format is used to transcribe interviews that will be run through the NVivo data analysis software. Academic researchers typically use NVivo to analyze specific keywords in their qualitative research, but this format could be used by market researchers as well.

Market Research: This format is used by market researchers, but it is not compatible with NVivo. It does not contain time stamps and specifically differentiates between the moderator of a focus group and the respondents.

Custom Formats: Although most clients are satisfied with our selection of content editing and formatting, we can also accommodate custom formatting requests. These can include specialized formatting or content editing requests.
